About Us
J-Bar-T Ranch began over 50 years ago with the first land acquisition and has developed into the fabulously beautiful ranch that it is today. Much of the land was originally covered with blackjack, white and red oak timber, having since been selectively cleared. The newly created pastures were contoured to reduce erosion and sprigged with native bermuda grass. Ponds were built for watershed control and to insure that plenty of water was available for livestock. Those many years of labor and expense to improve and maintain the land are evident in the country club appearance of J-Bar-T ranch land today. To maintain the quality, all pastures are fertilized and sprayed for weed control annually, as well as treatment for gopher control.
James "J.L." Thompson, the founder of J-Bar-T Ranch, served with distinction during World War II with the US Army in Europe as a combat veteran earning the Bronze Star. His J-Bar-T Ranch became known as one of the largest breeders of registered and purebred Charolais cattle in the country. Today, the cattle raised on J-Bar-T also include commercial, mixed breeds and are ranked highly by cattle buyers who consistently attend sales to purchase calves raised on J-Bar-T.
Operations are presently managed by Mr. Joe Brummett who has been responsible for management of J-Bar-T for over 30 years. His knowledge and work ethics are unexcelled, both qualities difficult to find and greatly appreciated. If desired by the new owner of J-Bar-T, Mr Brummett has indicated a willingness to consider a proposal for his continued employment.
At present, there are 576 head of cattle on J-Bar-T. 236 of those are this season calves, the bulk of which will be sold this fall. With average weather, the ranch should support 500 cows & bulls on an annual basis without affecting hay farming operations.
You are invited to explore the J-Bar-T Ranch as represented here. It is virtually impossible to portray the beauty and quality of the J-Bar-T Ranch as is exists in the Oklahoma hill country of Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. Thank you for your interest and allowing us to share our passion.
